MARSHMALLOWS
for roasting

The season of marshmallows & peppermint looms large.  Homemade marshmallows are the BEST.  I like to cut them in rounds just large enough to fit inside my mug of hot cocoa (like a giant crouton in french onion soup, ha).  Mine are made simply with water, sugar, gelatin, salt & vanilla.  Here’s a similar recipe if you want to give it a whirl.  Your cocoa will never be the same again.  This next Call wants your joyous Winter renderings.  Enjoy the season…

Check out this Call for Entries from Meridian Street Gallery (Indianapolis, IN) for Winter, Joy & Gatherings.  Here is your opportunity to work in a truly gorgeous space & possible holiday sales!  Take a look…

EGGPLANT

My kiddo just turned 16.  For his birthday, he didn’t ask for pizza or burgers; he wanted Indian food.  So proud.  Since his palate took a huge left turn a couple of years ago, eating out with him has been a voyage of firsts.  The first taste of Baingan ka Bharta (a spicy mash of eggplant & tomatoes) & Goat Korma were adorable.  And hopeful.  Finally I can rest knowing that I might have put another foodie out into the world that is willing to eat adventurously.  This next Call could be a first opportunity for you at the first show for this gallery.  Investigate…

Red is Tuesday’s color. Red roses symbolize passionate love. Red is the color of Mars. Red is the color of blood with strong symbolism as life and vitality. And we believe artists who work in RED understand the power of creating art within shades of red.  Here’s hoping to catch you RedHanded! –from the prospectus

rounds

I’ve been on a cheese kick lately.  But, I find myself specifically craving red-waxed cheddar. I know the artificially-colored wax coating isn’t supposed to influence flavor, but I love the texture of the cheddar found just under the surface of the wax.  AND, I like dipped cheeses better than brushed cheeses.  Something about those bright red rounds reminds me of the comfort of childhood before cholesterol and added pounds influenced my food choices.  This next Call wants your wax inspirations.  Check it out…

One of the things I miss most about being able to shop at the Farmer’s Market or local orchard during the winter is the ability to get wax-free fruit.  When I see a waxed apple, I have to assume it is really old.  Yes, fruit is waxed to make it “pretty” for consumers, but it is also done to seal in moisture and preserve “weight” for as much as a year.  Pick the ugly fruit, please.  This next Call uses wax in a much better way.  Take a look…
