ROMAN SUSAN operates as a gallery and venue for arts programming in the Roger’s Park neighborhood of Chicago. Roman Susan is named after Roman and Susan Lewandowski.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists. Editor’s Note: Accepted artwork has to be delivered for a March 29th opening–only two weeks after the deadline. So, artists outside the US could be looking at hefty delivery fees for such a short turn around time.

MEDIA: Oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, print media, mixed media or collage

DEADLINE: March 15, 2013

NOTIFICATION: Very shortly after the deadline.

ENTRY FEE: None. Submit up to 5 images.

My husband is a tea drinker, and it is my fault. So, I don’t like the smell of brewed coffee. (I hear the nasty emails being pecked out on keyboards across the world.) I haven’t drank a cup of coffee in 18+ years. I think brewed coffee smells like skunk spray. No joke. So for a long time, my husband used a French press because the odor was lessened. Six Summit Gallery presents “Illumination of Imagination” their 3rd Annual Holiday Art Celebration, juried by David T Wenzel. Thousands of people descend upon their little village the first Saturday of every December. They hope you will join this special art exhibition.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists, and despite the title and the support of breast cancer awareness, the theme is wide in content.

MEDIA: Original work in oil, water color, pastel, acrylic, mixed media, collage, graphics, photography, sculpture. Photo-mechanical reproductions of original work (giclee prints) are not eligible.

DEADLINE: Received by November 10, 2012

NOTIFICATION: November 14, 2012

ENTRY FEE: First entry $10, 2 entries $15 and 3 entries $20.

JUROR: David T. Wenzel is an illustrator and children’s book artist. He is best known for his visualization of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, illustrated in graphic novel format. The Hobbit, Graphic Novel is one of the most successful graphic format adaptations of a piece of classic literature David has worked on Kingdom of the Dwarves, written by Robb Walsh, published by Centaur Books.

David has left his artistic mark on a variety of non-book related projects including puzzles, greeting cards, and two entire miniature kingdoms of collectible figurines. Many may remember him from the days when he worked on The Avengers for Marvels Comics.

SALES: Gallery receives 35% on accepted sold work. 5% of sales will be reserved for charity. Artists will receive 60% of sales.

Heart smart foods have become the norm in my house. I have scary-low blood pressure, and my doc says it makes me far less likely to have a heart attack or stroke. However, my husband is one of those string beans that can consume 5000 calories per day. If Captain Consumption is going to grow old with me, the meats are going to have to be lean, the vegetables plentiful, whole grains a constant and cheese…just an occasional indulgence. JUROR: Kim Casebeer was born and raised in Kansas, and still lives in Kansas. She draws her inspiration from the simplicity of the Flint Hills, an area of wide open ranch land. These days Kim also feels at home painting in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Wyoming and Texas. Kim received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Kansas State University in 1992.

Kim’s work has been featured in numerous magazine articles. She has exhibited in many prestigious national competitions, winning many awards, including Best of Show at the 2010 Nomades del Arte National Invitational Exhibit held at Southwest Gallery. Kim has also particpated in museum shows in Arizona, Wyoming, Montana and Oklahoma.

AWARDS: Best of Show: $1,500.00, 2nd Place: $1,000.00, 3rd Place: $ 500.00, 3 Awards of Merit: $ 100.00 each, 3 Honorable Mentions & 1 Purchase Award.

No surprise, I’ve had a bit of a struggle with my weight over the years. In recent years, I’ve gotten better control of my food issues by figuring out one amazing fact… My menu is far more varied and exciting when I am trying to figure out how to do it in a healthy manner. It was a fascinating personal discovery. So, while I adore the gourmand Food & Wine, I am personally more likely to actually prepare foods found in Cooking Light. In keeping with a Jerry’s Artarama tradition, they are looking for your artwork to be the cover for their upcoming 2012 catalog. If you have seen the Jerry’s Artarama year long catalog then great! If you have never seen nor received a Jerry’s Artarama catalog, their year long catalog is often referred to at times as the “Encyclopedia of Art Supplies” packed with 30,000+ art supplies and materials at low prices.

Jerry’s Artarama is running a cover contest to find artwork that fits with our ongoing theme of “Empowering Artists”. Last year’s (2011) catalog cover was the start of it featuring Rosie the Riveter in her Iconic pose. This year will be the continuation of this committment.

ELIGIBILITY: Open all artists.

The Artistic Circle is an art contest online that was created to give Artists the opportunity to express themselves spiritually through their interpretation of the given themes provided. The Artistic Circle believes the more one is exposed to these types of themes the more their consciousness perception shifts to a higher state, which is a more desirable one.

THEME: Healing art is anything depicting a sense of calmness and sereneness. This contest is open to the artist’s interpretation of what healing art means to them.

OPEN CALL: Grand Opera House Galleries

The Grand is actively searching for artists to exhibit their work in the 2011/12 season at one of the galleries in the beautiful, historic Opera House. Along with the opportunity to show for the month, artists will also take part in the City of Wilmington’s Art on the Town, also known as the first Friday Art Loop.

ELIGIBILITY: The body of work in the exhibition should not be work that has been previously exhibited at The Grand.

MEDIA: All 2-Dimensional media. See application.

DEADLINE: Ongoing.

ENTRY FEE: There is a Gallery fee of $25.00 for each application submitted.

SALES: Artists are responsible for providing a price list identifying the works by number, title, size, media and price. A minimum of 100 copies should be available for the opening and visitors’ use throughout the show. The amount of work for sale is at the discretion of the artist. CALL for ART ENTRIES: The Guild

When I think of salt water taffy, I think of the mountains. Odd, eh? I suspect that salt water taffy got its start on seaside boardwalks, but it seems every small mountain town has a great little store front that lets you watch taffy being made. I know that here in Gatlinburg, there is more than one. I wonder if Blue Ridge, GA (home of this Call) has a taffy shop. Sounds like a great reason to attend the reception…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild for their Annual National Juried Show which will be exhbiited in the Richard Low Evans Gallery in Blue Ridge, GA, one of “America’s Top Art Communities.” I know that discussing art sales is like talking about religion or politics in polite company (in bad taste), but I will say it anyway… this could be a great opportunity to sell some artwork.

CALL for ART ENTRIES: National Juried Show

You are cordially invited to enter the annual National Juried Show sponsored by the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild (The Guild). The show will be juried by Asheville, NC gallery owner John Cram. Blue Ridge, GA is located in the beautiful north Georgia mountains. The show will run in the peak visitor months of October and November attracting interest from the surrounding metropolitan areas of Atlanta, Asheville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Art works selected by the juror will be displayed in the Richard Low Evans Gallery of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (The Art Center) in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists who are residents of the United States are invited to participate in a juried exhibition.

MEDIA: Mixed Media, Oil or acrylic, Pastel framed, Three-Dimensional art, Water media framed, Photography framed, Computer art framed, All Other: including drawing, color pencil, pen and ink, but excluding all print reproductions (including Gicleé).

DEADLINE: July 31, 2011

NOTIFICATION: August 28, 2011

ENTRY FEE: $35 for up to three entries for non-members and $30 for Guild members. Check or money order should be included with entry form, payable to Southern Appalachian Artist Guild or SAAG.

JUROR: John Cram has pursued his dream for the past 35 years through the creation of four distinctive galleries in the Asheville, NC area. Blue Spiral 1, New Morning Gallery and Bellagio have paced the recognition of Asheville as a vital center of the arts. Mr. Cram’s name is synonymous with Asheville’s renaissance. His eye for art is unquestioned and apparent in his galleries and in the vision he has helped breathe into the Asheville art environment.

AWARDS: $5000 in prize money will be awarded.

SALES: A commission of 35% (30% for Guild members) will be retained by The Art Center for all work sold during the course of the show.
