Artist Series Wine Label Contest

We are looking for a spectacular wine label to adorn our equally spectacular wine and invite you to create it. The winning artist will see their masterpiece featured on an exclusive, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon served in every Capital Grille restaurant, and will receive a case of this exceptional wine, an all-expense-paid excursion to Napa Valley and, of course, artistic immortality.

ELIGIBILITY: US residents, 21+ years old

MEDIA: Any media appropriate for translation as a wine label. For example, painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, etc.

DEADLINE: Postmarked no later than October 15, 2012, and received by October 19, 2012.

NOTIFICATION: For names of winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope for receipt by November 1, 2012, to: The Capital Grille Art Competition, 1000 Darden Center Drive, Orlando, FL, 32837. I know, I know. But be patient since art isn’t their normal business.

ENTRY FEE: None

JUROR: Artwork must be original and cannot have been previously published or submitted in any other competition. Judging will be based on creativity & originality in relation to its potential placement on a wine bottle. Judging will be conducted by a jury in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, The Capital Grille. The decision of the judges is final and binding in all matters relating to the contest.

AWARDS: A 4-day/3-night trip for the winner and one guest to California. Trip includes round trip coach air transportation to and from a major airport nearest the winner’s home, standard double occupancy hotel accommodations for three nights, the opportunity to tour select Napa Valley wineries and participate in wine tastings, select activities, meals and beverages (as determined by Sponsor) and ground transportation to and from airport in California and to and from each winery. Travel for this prize must be completed by December 31, 2013. Approximate retail value $5,000.

MEDIA: 2-dimensional form of visual art, which may include, but is not limited to, paint on canvas, graphic illustrations, watercolor, charcoal, ink or pencil. Artwork in the form of photography and art in three- (3-) dimensional or non-visual form, such as sculptures, will not be accepted. Work must creatively depict the varietal characteristics of one (1) of the Canvas Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay or Merlot. (i.e. cedar, tobacco, rich dark fruit, and hints of oak and spice for Cabernet Sauvignon; pure fruit and toasty oak for Chardonnay; or pure fruit, toasty spice and rich, ripe tannins for Merlot). JUROR: The Grand Prize Winner will be determined based on the following criteria: a. On-line popular vote (20%) b. Originality and appeal of his or her written description of his or her Artwork inspiration and career aspirations of why Finalist would like to be an artist as described in the Essays (30%).

AWARDS: 1 Grand Prize will be awarded to each Varietal Category, subject to verification, for a total of three (3) Grand Prizes. JUROR: The panel of judges is headed each year by Louis Singh, director of Beaux Arts Gallery London. In addition, four experts from the contemporary art world are also invited to participate, bringing the total on the panel to five. Members have included established artists, gallery owners, art critics and writers, art dealers, art enthusiasts and celebrities who may or may not be publicly recognized as accomplished artists.

Louis Singh says, “St Ives in the 1970s was a somewhat lazier place than today. Late morning deals were customarily made with cigarette in one hand and glass of sherry in the other. Back then my father had the Wills Lane gallery which ensured my mind was constantly flooded with images of the St Ives School as soon as my eyes had opened.

“When I was ten my parents opened the Beaux Arts gallery in Bath which continued to nurture these Cornish roots. These days with a sister gallery in London, minus the sherry, not much has changed. I busy myself by keeping the gallery from growing old by steering some youth and raw contemporary talent, towards its doors.”

AWARDS: Grand Prize Award £1,000 Cash Prize & £1,000 worth of Materials and Services.
