THE CHEESE,
please

Cheese plates annoy me.  More accurately, cheese plates ON MENUS annoy me.  Don’t offer me cheese and crackers or cheese and fruit.  The world offers a buffet of cheeses.  The term “cheese” is a category, not a description.  Give me smoked gouda, or a triple-creme brie or a beautifully aged Stilton, but don’t offer me cheese. This next call is open to a buffet of artwork in the category of photography.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for ONWARD Compé 2012 from Project Basho.  Online entry and payment is simple, and the prizes are phenomenal.  Get ready to make tough decisions because they will take anything from silver gelatin to digital work.  Look into the details…

I love the fusion of classic dishes and modern cuisine.  Deconstructed dishes are a perfect example.  Like the caesar salad that comes with a mound of romaine, a poached egg and a sardine on crostini.  Okay, that may be a little on the fringe.  Maybe the pomegranite martini is a better example…shaken, not stirred No, I prefer classic dirty martinis with lots o’ olives.  Anyway, this next Call is a perfect opportunity to learn a new process…be it old & new to you or new & new to you.  Think about it…

Arkansas reminds me of popcorn.  When I was about eight years old, my father was transferred to Arkansas for work for 18 weeks, and during the inclement weather (a three foot flood, 18″ of snow and 100°+ temps all during our 18 weeks in Little Rock), I would go to work with one of my father’s friends.  This friend worked at a local movie theatre as a projectionist, and I would sit in the projection booth and watch the movie through the teeny tiny viewing window with a cardboard box of leftover theatre popcorn in my lap.  Blissful.  I am doubting that this next Call will feature popcorn at the opening, but you COULD bring your own…
