for success

Everyone I know makes at least one dish that makes people ask, “How do you make that?”  Mine has changed over the years from hollandaise sauce to creamed spinach to 40 spice hummus.  Similarly, everyone who is in arts management or administration hears the same question, “How do I get a solo/group show in a gallery?”  This next Call answers that question.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for 2014 Exhibitions from Flow Art Space (Minneapolis, MN).  Great news…NO COMMISSION, no really.  This is a rare opportunity in a fairly young gallery. Investigate for yourself…

I MISS THE TREATS

I haven’t had a trick-or-treater at my door in years.  I miss seeing cute kids in even cuter costumes.  I miss giving out chocolate, knowing it may be the only candy that doesn’t get thrown away later. But alas, I live in the mountains.  Not many people live in neighborhoods, and those that do have an “organized community,” don’t have walkable streets.  We buy 4-wheel drive vehicles because we actually need them.  Our kids go downtown and trick or treat on Main Street.  No joke. So, I have to get in the spirit other ways.  I think this next Call is a great start.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from RaiseART (online) for Trick Art Treat, a fun online competition with no fee that might just get you out of your rut and into the Halloween spirit.  The award is pretty sweet…

BAKERY STAR

I love FoodTV as much as the next person, but cooking shows just frustrate me.  General shows that show me new cooking techniques or that introduce new foods are fantastic.  But, the idea that someone can learn to bake something that requires measuring and weighing from watching a food show is a little crazy.  Who can write that down and still pay attention.  Am I going to their website later to get the recipe that may or may not actually be there?  Not.  Am I going to DVR and re-watch later?  Not.  This next Call is a far better use of video.  Take a look…

I live in a town with a population of approximately 3500.  We have 1 zip code & area code, 1 post office, and…one grocery store.  Luckily, the popularity of my hometown with tourists affords a few luxuries like a recently renovated produce and seafood section in our lone grocery store.  I bought salmon there last week, and it came wrapped in paper.  Paper.  Lovely. Thank you for not adding another piece of plastic wrap to my grocery cart.  There is a time and place for paper, and this next Call would be another of them.  Take a look…
