DAYDREAMING

I have been working on a menu for months now.  I have virtually no free time.  Amongst the art show, music gigs, cooking, cleaning, blogging and family time, there is precious little time for day dreaming.  Nonetheless, the soup is always simmering in my mind.  I have been working on a menu for a bistro for months in my head.  I’m narrowing down the theme and am going to start working on food cost projections soon.  Where is the bistro?  In my head.  Here a chance to spend time putting your daydreams down on paper.  This is a great winter project…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Ciao Gallery in Jackson, Wyoming for the Rocky Mountain Art Book Collection.  I love this idea.  Some of the suggested themes are a hoot (like Goggle Tan), but you can always choose your own them.  Take a look…

All I want for Christmas is to eat pastries outside of Tiffany’s window.  Okay, that is not exactly what I want.  I really want a new art studio, no need for a day job and a little bistro of my own so that I can subject the locals to my food experiments and still close after lunch.  But if you think about it, it IS the same thing–a life of harried, hurried, excited leisure.  Ahh, the glorious dream.  This next call has nothing to do with pastries or Tiffany’s, but the gallery share the name of my heroine du jour.  Take a chance…

I love red wine, but it hates me.  My mom feels that way about cucumbers. My kid feels that way about cheese. CALL for ENTRIES: The Art of Rebellion

Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!FOOD FIGHT

We all have a responsibility to know how our food ends up on our plates.  I’ve seen the slaughter videos (horrifying BTW), and I still eat beef.  I have witnessed a chicken lose his head (disturbing), and I still eat chicken.  But I have to say, I’m not cooking live lobster or crab.  My husband is allergic to shellfish, so it doesn’t come up all that often, but I’m not going to fight my food.  Lobsters and crab have a documented history of fighting the cooking process.  Not this girl.  Thanks, but no.  This next Call is looking for your brand of rebellion.  Lobsters and crabs are not eligible to apply…

Check out this Call for Entries for The Art of Rebellion from Gowanus Print Lab in Brooklyn, NY!  Except for the rare “no entry fee” opportunity, entry fees don’t get cheaper than $5 for 5 images.  The only catch is that you have to be a student. Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: The Art of Rebellion

Learn more about the Gowanus Print Lab in Brooklyn NY!2011 has been a year of rebellion.  This year has seen long-standing monarchs overthrown in Egypt and Libya and mass protests for calling change in the economic-political power structure in Europe and the United States, most notably in Occupy Wall Street.

Dissent at this level has not been seen since the late 1960’s, where protesters developed both nonviolent and more radical protest techniques that are still used in today’s struggles.

Young people in particular are standing up and using their voice, and in times of social turmoil and political upheaval art can be used as a powerful and emotional communicative tool.

If food were a mural, I think it would be a giant, thin-crust pizza.  You can put anything into it or seperate it into sections.  It is nutrionally dense and can certainly say something about the artist that creates it.  The thin-crust part?  Well, in both art and pizza, I think it is about the toppings, not what they’re on.  This next Call wants your mural ideas (pizza or non-pizza related) and more.  Take a look…

Contrary to the sentiment I usually espouse, not all food has to look appealing to be tasty.  Escargot is a tasty treat that is high in protein and low in fat (assuming you forego the butter sauce), but the diet of the wild-caught snail in nauseating.  Eating escargot, even in the most upscale environment, is a little like Halloween in your mouth–delightfully scary.  This next Call is looking for the macabre as well…
