I do not understand the over-size food craze. I occasionally watch Man vs. Food, and each time I wonder, “Will he ever want to eat that again?” Why would anyone order a 7lb burger, 5 gallons of ice cream or 4 lbs of pancakes unless they were having a party. The 10 ft. sub sandwich, that I understand. Party food. But where is the fun in making yourself ill with a food you may now love but never again be able to face? Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity.

The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the months of April and May 2013 at Island Park along Sarasota’s beautiful bay front.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists. National and international submissions are encouraged.

DEADLINE:
January 7th, 2013

NOTIFICATION:
Winning selections
will be announced online at embracingourdifferences.org by mid-March, 2013.

ENTRY FEE: None.

45 artists will be selected for the exhibit.

Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 850,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. At the judges’ discretion, an additional 6 “honorable mentions” may be selected.

SELECTION PROCESS: Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme “Embracing Our Differences.”

The art-work will also be evaluated on how it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size – 16′ wide by 12.5′ high.

Artists are encouraged to use
bold saturated colors and strong lines.

Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals.

AWARDS: A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.

This is the 21st annual competition for gallery exhibition and awards. This exhibition is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists, national and international.

MEDIA: All media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 96″ no wider than 120″. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36″wide entry door.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2012

NOTIFICATION: No later than December 30, 2012 by email.

AWARDS: There will be a $1000 cash prize awarded to one artist. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #20, Fall 2013 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Borders and Barnes and Noble. ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital files, prints or 35mm slides. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments may be by check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions, or by credit card using PayPal.

SALES: All works in the show must be for sale. 30 % commission on all sales. Sale price is determined by the artist.

Online Entry: On line entries are via email or web post with direct html link . Email files must be in JPG format. JPG files when closed should be approx. 500K (1/2 MB) or less in size, when open approx. 8MB or less.

Images may also be posted to a dedicated web page and a link provided to the page. Web page images should not be download restricted. Videos artists may also post on a personal web page or on YouTube.

AWARDS: Four to six exhibitions during each of the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons; including, if possible, one large solo show each year by a member artist. Two to four exhibitions for its annual REACH Across Dayton collaboration with Sinclair Community College, during winter/early spring 2014 and 2015. REACH (Realizing Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage) Across Dayton exhibits explore synergies between diverse cultures as expressed in the arts and humanities. I have so many guilty food pleasures. One of my favorites is provolone wrapped in prosciutto, stuffed in a pickled cherry pepper and marinated in olive oil. ABOUT the GALLERY: Having celebrated it’s grand opening on March 19, 2010, the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood, Maryland is a dynamic space dedicated to presenting and promoting the visual arts. The center is home to more than a dozen artists’ studios, Gateway CDC’s 39th Street Gallery, and the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center’s Gallery 110. The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission’s Brentwood Arts Exchange occupies approximately one quarter of the building, featuring a gallery of changing exhibitions by regional artists, a contemporary fine crafts store, and an arts learning workshop.
