Field Day is right around the corner for my son.  Do you remember Field Day?  It was the much-hyped day of outdoor fun and competition we were all supposed to anticipate it with such joy.  Not.  I just wasn’t that girl.  The best thing about Field Day was eating outside.  And, I still like a picnic now and then, but you can keep the track-and-field events, thanks.  This next Call is from Field Projects, but I don’t think they are going to force you to hurdle anything.  Except a deadline, maybe…

I would hurt somebody for macaroni and cheese right now.  No, I’m not pregnant, but my craving for foods has been a little nutty lately.  Oddly enough, I usually crave carbohydrate laden, comfort food like macaroni & cheese in Winter, not Spring.  I suppose some cravings are just primal (or so I am going to claim when I indulge later).  This next Call speaks to the primal as well.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Saranac Art Projects (Spokane, WA) for Prime, a juried exhibit. The entry fee can be as little as $15 and there is no commission! This show is one I would really like to see all of you get behind. Honestly, this is a great show… Please, make me proud.

I am consistently amused by product names.  It comes from all the years of marketing.  When I saw the first commercial for belVita, I thought, “Really? Those sound awful.”  But, of course, I am now addicted to the Golden Oat variety.  However, I think I have to draw the line at urine-monikered soft drinks.  Funny? Yes.  Appetizing? No.  This next Call’s humor makes it a yummy opportunity.  Take a look…

I am a hypocritical health food junkie.  I am the arrogant jerk that gives you sideways looks in the grocery line as you pile bacon, potato chips and pop tarts on the conveyor belt.  Afterall, you will be in the parking lot as I am hiding my Moon Pies under my bag of kale.  Sorry; it is hypocritical, I know.  I just want to live forever.  I want if for you too.  The majority of my groceries are whole foods, healthy or leafy and green.  But I never leave without a sugary indulgence.  This next Call needs you alive too.  Stay healthy…

No Dead Artists

No Dead Artists turns that notion on its head and gives emerging artists their first break in the art world. In the 90’s, the exhibition was open only to New Orleans artists and subsequently grew to include artists of Louisiana. In 2010, the exhibition expanded to become a national juried exhibition open to artists from the entire United States.

Each year, hundreds of artists submit thousands of works with the hope of being in the select few to exhibit at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery. The exhibition is reviewed annually by D. Eric Bookhardt (Artpapers and Gambit Weekly). The opening reception marks the beginning of the arts season in New Orleans and is attended by thousands of art enthusiasts.

Learn more from the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery! The exhibition was created in 1995 to give a voice to emerging artists. Now in its 17th year, No Dead Artists has become an exhibition that has time and again discovered new and emerging talent and is one of the most celebrated art exhibitions in the South.
