I knowingly ate currants for the first time last week.  I am certain that I have eaten them unknowingly in dishes from time to time.  I never realized they were just raisins made from a smaller variety of grape.  I love firsts.  This next Call gives you an opportunity to be among the firsts that someone else gets to love.  Take a look…

or CHEESE?

I will emerge from the melted cheese eventually.  Yes, I realize I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks.  You’ll just have to forgive me.  I’ve been dealing with some pretty serious health challenges and complications from surgery.  I AM OKAY; I promise.  I’ve just been feeling sorry for myself and haven’t been capable of spreading the same generous helpings of optimism for which I am known.  I’ve been drowning in the melted cheese of recovery: macaroni ‘n’ cheese, grilled cheese, cheese enchiladas, three cheese lasagna–the food of the depressed and/or recovering.  But, I am slowly emerging from the cheesy fog.  I had fresh fish tacos last night (with a minimal amount of monterrey jack).  So, this next Call seemed like the perfect “I’m almost back” post.  Take a look…

Check out this great Call for Entries brought to you by SlowArt Productions. Emerging Artists 2014 work will be showcased at the Limner Gallery in Hudson, NY. The entry fee is reasonable and prizes include both cash and publication awards! Don’t delay your entry…

me

If I had to choose one food to represent me as a person, I would possibly die of indecision. But, since my food ramblings are only the fluff of why readers come to this site, and you don’t have enough time to wait…let’s will say just for argument’s sake that goat cheese would represent me perfectly. Soft but with an edge, getting a little more tart with age, not for everyone, but goes well with almost anything. Goat cheese is me. If goat cheese isn’t you, don’t worry. This next Call offers you a chance for a year-long representation. Investigate…

Check out this Call for Entries from Melissa Wolf Fine Arts (online) for the Represent, and opportunity for a year of representation. This is a very new online venue; however, I had some personal success with their last call. So, at least take a look…

We rarely eat in my dining room.  We most often eat our cordon bleu and asparagus in front of the dumb tube.  In fact, we do almost everything in the livingroom:   music, homework, art, reading, and all serious family planning and conversation.  It is a very personal parlor of sorts.  This next gallery is sure to be a space to inspire conversation just like it namesake.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Parlor Gallery for their 1st Juried Exhibition. The juror is fantastic, and Best of Show wins a 2014 solo show.  The entry fee is standard.  Don’t miss this one…

In January 2005, LeVine renamed and moved his gallery to the epicenter of the contemporary art world, Manhattan’s Chelsea district.

and the delicious

If this blog has an underlying, non-food theme, it would be “be brave”.  I use suggestions that you eat uni, or maybe fermented duck eggs, as the way to the point across, but “be brave” is the true theme, nonetheless.  This next Call is asking for your take on “The Road not Taken.”  Be brave and try…

Check out this Call for Entries from Lander Art Center (Lander, WY) for The Road Not Taken.  This is a great theme that is wide open to interpretation.  Could this be the opportunity for you?

The Road Not Taken

This year’s juror show theme centers around the well known 1916 poem by Robert Frost entitled The Road Not Taken.  Poetry and the visual arts can have the similar ability to evoke thought, reflection, and emotion.  This year’s theme, The Road Not Taken can be explored as a whole or focused on a certain phrase or aspect of the poem by the artist.

Who is left behind when one goes down one path and not the other?  What do we sacrifice for taking the road less traveled?  The poem is to be interpreted by the individual artist.

My husband sings in the kitchen.  It isn’t one specific tune; it is usually whatever he last heard.  I don’t know how he doesn’t find it distracting.  I need concentration and quiet to make sure my mousse doesn’t burn.  I just do.  I don’t often listen to music while I produce art either.  Puzzling.  This next Call is musically inspired; maybe I should experiment.  Take a look…

So I’m a little shy about my food knowledge.  My friends, readers and even my family ask food questions all the time with the assumption that I will know the answers because I write about food everyday.  And, if you need to know how to boil the perfect egg, I’m your woman.  But, I can’t tell you the flavor profile of every fruit, veggie and meat on the planet because I haven’t tried them ALL.  I’m working on it though. In the meantime, when asked a question to which I don’t have an answer.  I just shyly beg off the subject.  Don’t be shy about this next opportunity…

I think the teenagers that work at my local market think I am the crazy produce lady.  It might have something to do with the muttering under my breath when they drop the pineapple on my tomatoes or the fact that I will stand in a longer line to get the cashier that won’t drop a cantaloupe on my cilantro.   The muttering prevents me from coming unhinged.  The only thing missing from the scenerio is my muttering “whippersnappers,” but I assure you it will show up eventually.
