more than ORANGE JUICE

Have I told you I was born in Florida? We lived there of and on until I was 5 years old.  My most distinct food memories are from Florida.  I remember accidentally dumping spaghetti on my dad’s lap because I forgot to brace the drop leaf table.  I remember loving hot dogs from Dixie’s in Treasure Island and momentarily believing I was abandoned because the line had moved and I hadn’t.  Spaghetti and hot dogs. Expand your range of Florida experiences with the next Call.  You won’t regret it.

CALL for ENTRIES: Winter Prize

Learn more about the Winter Prize from Western Bureau Arts! functional FOOD collections

I acquire things in threes & fives.  I’m partial to the odd, regardless of the source.  My mother likes the evens.  I have three wasabi turtles; she has a favorite pair of berry bowls.  I have five sets of chopsticks; she has pair of porcelain egg cups.  My collecting has been purposefully curbed due to a conscious decision to own less, but “three” is still a set for me.  This next Call offers a $300 prize & the possibility of becoming part of collection.  This one is quarterly…

CALL for ENTRIES: Chromatic

Learn more about the Chromatic Exhibit from Norwalk Parking Authority!asphalt APPETITE

I ate a lot of parking lot food this week.  I have been on the road the entire year so far, and it snowed every single day of my travels.  The roads were mostly clear, but the parking lots were a different story.  So, if the grocery was clearer than the diner, they made my lunch choice takeout salad bars over greasy-spoon burgers.  If the hotel’s lot hadn’t been plowed yet, it was microwaveable oatmeal instead of the local waffle purveyor.  Parking lot food, like parking lot art, can do an artist/body good.  This next Call from a parking authority is a perfect example. Great call…

Why did we every stop?  I can’t remember.  This Call wants to know about your creatures, both real & imagined.  Take a look…

I believe in food as medicine.  Like a lot of you, I have a couple of chronic health conditions that require medication, including cough-variant asthma. I have chosen to take the least amount of medication possible to suppress side effects –specifically to my voice.  Green tea with honey, cayenne & turmeric is loaded with anti-inflammatories that really help prepare my voice for the level of use I have to sustain.  The positive? I take fewer prescription drugs.  The negative? My tongue is always orange, ha. This next Call wants your positive and/or negative take for the 32nd year in a row.  Take a look…
