CALL for SUBMISSIONS: Studio Fellowship

Learn more about the Studio Fellowship from VisArts at Rockville!jars & JARS & jars

Canning food is a time-consuming preparation, but the rewards are huge.  So far, I have managed to shrugged the task off on my mother. Tomatoes, beets & chow chow are my favorites, but eventually she will make me take over.  The last time I canned tomatoes, it resulted in jars exploding in my laundry room.  No amount of time makes makes that mess worth it, but this next Call will buy you 6 months.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Proposals from VisArts (Rockville, MD) for Studio Fellowship.  The submission fee is only $15 and the prize is a gift of time.  Is this the opportunity for you…

FRUIT-ish

Aside from an occasional banana or orange, most of my fruit experiences as a kid were of the fruit cocktail variety.  But as an adult, I have come to appreciate the singular special-ness of fruit on its own.  I almost (just almost) prefer it to chocolate.  It does not have the richness added by fat content, but it has a simplicity that I find equally decadent. Simple and sweet. This next call is also a simple opportunity with big payoff.  This could be right for you…

French philosopher Albert Camus once said, “A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world.”  But, I’ve always believed that we create the majority of beasts of this world from our anxiety and worry and imagination.  The beasts of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Brian Somerville, guide us through fear with a little humor.

Citrus & avocados just became an option again.  For years, my family has been considering locations for relocating, mostly in the eastern U.S., north of the Tennessee/Virginia line.  But after our years of circling the same section of the map, an opportunity much closer to the equator has presented itself.  While I should be concentrating on finding a place to live and all the details that follow, all I can think about is mangoes and avocados, and option I never imagined possible.  While I get back to the garden planning, this next Call offers you a chance to get back to the garden as well.  I love this venue & I’m guessing you will too…

Learn more the Open Call from The Woven Tale Press!

an imperfect PLACE for food

My kitchen table drama is ongoing.  It is a 45″ round pedestal-style table with a black, faux-milkpaint finish.  Black shows every speck, and that’s worse when your driveway is gravel (or, in my case, not a great housekeeper).  Every time I clean the table, the stain of of the finish comes off a little more and the chairs are a misery.  It gets used as a makeshift desk, studio worktable & only an occasional serving surface, so I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.  My mother’s solution was to quilt a new set of wedge-shaped placements.  All better, right?  Gotta love her optimism.  This next Call won’t make everything better either, but it is a lovely improvement.  Plus, it is a ongoing deadline…

Check out this Open Call for Entries from The Woven Tale Press for unsolicited submissions.  No entry fee for this opportunity.  Writing submissions are welcomed as well.  Art publication is worth the effort, and I’ll keep publishing them until we find the right one for you.  Take a look…
