I’m that person that always has a drink in her hand.  And, because I spend so much time on the road, I drink lots of water and more soft drinks that I care to admit.  When I finally get home, I just want a tall, cold glass of unsweetened, decaf black tea.  How odd that it would be a simple glass of tea that would remind me so much of home.  This next Call wants your thoughts on ‘home’ –person, place, feeling.  What’s home to you?

Check out this Call for Entries from the Lubeznik Center for the Arts (Michigan City, IN) for Home, a national juried exhibition.  Two artist will also have an opportunity for an additional future exhibit at LCA.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Time Will Tell

Learn more from the Coburn Gallery at Ashland University in Ashland, OH!years of WINE and art

I eat a lot of food, so do you, it is how we survive.  I also see a lot of art; it is also how I survive, quit literally, since it is my occupation.  I rarely know much about an artist personally before I see their work, and I am intrigued how many of the artists behind the work I love end up being in their 40s or 50s or older.  It isn’t exclusively that, but it is far more common that would seem coincidental.  Maybe art, like wine, cheese & beef, ages well.  Show off your maturity with this next call.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Ashland University for Time Will Tell, an exhibit of work by artists at least 50 years old at the Coburn Gallery. This is an uncommon opportunity…

ARTIST of the DAY: Margaret Fitzgerald

"End of the World" (oil on canvas) by Margaret Fitzgerald
“End of the World” (oil on canvas) by Margaret Fitzgerald

“Painting, for me, is a journey into the unknown.”
Margaret Fitzgerald

I’m a planner.  I like structure and process and, well, control.  And this holds true for my art, my food, my life.  But, here I am faced with opportunities for which I can never really be fully prepared.  So, what to do?  Let go, that’s what. So, I am embracing the unknown, and the work of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Margaret Fitzgerald, has helped me on my way.

Embrace the journey found in the work of AAAD Artist of the Day, painter Margaret Fitzgerald!

Elemental #1 (encaustic, gauze, wire, rust, shellac on paper, dim var) by Megan Klim

“This body of work speaks to simplicity,  the inherent beauty of the materials…” Megan Klim

In preparation for an international move in 2018, we are downsizing to a one bedroom apartment (approx. 450 sq. ft) from a 2 bedroom cabin (850 sq. ft.).  As we purge, I find that I make decisions on whether things stay or go based on their usefulness, simplicity & aesthetic, in that order.  The simple beauty of the work of today’s Artist of the Day, Megan Klim speaks to me.  It is a beautiful calm.

Find a calm space with the work of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Megan Klim!

ARTIST of the DAY: Kathy Cantwell

Hidden Life of Stripes 17, encautic, by Kathy Cantwell
Hidden Life of Stripes 17 (encaustic) by Kathy Cantwell

“They wait to be observed. In their numbers,
they are a community of stripedom, standing
together to make their voices count & possibly
overtaking the viewer with their strength.”

Kathy Cantwell

Unlike many curators & jurists, I really love reading artists’ statements.  I live to consume them separately so as not to influence my perception of the work.  I am drawn to geometrics, so when I came across the work of today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, encaustic painter Kathy Cantwell, I was intrigued by the “why” behind the stripes.  I never expected to walk away with a perspective on humanity, on how we are better… together.  Thank you, Kathy.
