CALL for ENTRIES: Urban Legends

Remember to enter the $5 Art Contest!TURKEY
lurkey

I don’t eat turkey on holidays.  I’ve never liked the pressure of culinary conformity, or any other kind for that matter.  I usually have ham or duck.  Interestingly enough, I cooked a turkey the week before Thanksgiving this year because they were on sale.  But, all of the stories of people burning their houses down while attempting to deep fry their turkey don’t make me want to try that method.  I realize those stories are exaggerated to almost urban legend status, but I am simply not enticed.  I AM enticed by this next Call focused on  urban legends though…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Non-Fiction Gallery (Savannah, GA) for Common Knowledge, and exhibit exploring proverbial sayings, urban legends, folklore and catchphrases.  AND, the entry fee is only $20…

FOOD

Can we talk about food porn?  I think no one will be shocked to hear that I post pictures of my food to social media.  Yes, I am one of those people.  But what I want to know is why most people highly filter their pics.  You don’t OWE it to the restaurant to make their food look better than it is.  So, are you taking pictures of your food to document a beautiful meal or fun experience?  OR, are you just trying to “one up” your friends?  Maybe food pics should just be representational of what your really see before you–kind of like this next call…

Some people truly excel at cooking out in the elements.  I’m not talking about pimped out BBQ grills on your 400 square foot deck.  I’m talking about those folks that can rub two sticks together to make fire or bury things in the coals that turn out like gourmet treats.  I am not that girl.  I’m not really a fan of living in the elements–period.  I mastered s’mores & “Angels Riding Horeseback” (cheese dogs) in the Girl Scouts, but I got that badge by the skin of my teeth.   I CAN admit the elements ARE beautiful, and this next Call will help you prove it.  Great theme…

Photograph the beauty of nature, five elements provide the foundation for our entire physical world.

Earth, and everything on it, is the product of different combinations of the five basic elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space.  Everything found in our world is unique because it contains a varying ratio of these five elements.

Whether walking headfirst into a gale of wind or digging our hands into the soil, we possess an inherent familiarity with the elements.  All organic and inorganic substances are combinations of them, be it a time-polished rock or a shiny piece of plastic.  A multitude of spiritual practices revolve around these five important pieces of the universe.
