HERO

What would we do without the iconic dishes that make up the safety net?  You know the ones…everyone likes some version of it.  They tend to be my “go to” meals on nights when I have to plan in advance.  Since I don’t know what anyone will be in the mood for, I hit the highlights.  Tonight is spaghetti night.  No matter who is coming, I can cover vegetarian, vegan & gluten-free if need be.  This Call is all about iconic art categories.  Please investigate this one.  If you work in 2-D, there is probably a way to make this work for you

Check out this Call for Entries from Art of Brands (a new AAAD sponsor) for Iconic Images.  There is no entry fee, and this could be a great way to earn money from your art.  Take a look…

*Editor’s Note:  So many of you have talked to me about selling your work w/o being bogged down running a gallery or about art fairs or gallery representation.  I know you often leave the conversation not feeling like nothing is accessible.  I like THIS opportunity.  If you work in 2-D, don’t dismiss this Call.  Some of you might consider simply doing what you already do but direct some content to suit this purpose.  It won’t be for everyone, but I think it is a valid option for a lot of you.

CALL for Entries: Still Life / Life Still

Learn more from Darkroom Gallery!ATE hours later

Cooking has moved into slow motion in my house.  As much as I want to hurry Spring along, I am reminded of our current Winter status by the icy wind that greets me at my front door each morning.  So, my slow cooker lives in a perpetual circuit from counter to refrigerator to sink to counter to refrigerator to sink–almost daily.  Tonight is lentil soup with bacon. This next Call wants to see what happens when life stills completely.  An intriguing take on a traditional form…

Still Life / Life Still

The study of inanimate objects; subject matter, placement and compositional balance imply meaning that surmount everyday functionality.  Historically, a still life composition is an array of commonplace objects, inert and set in space.  These objects often include natural components such as plants, fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers accompanied by man made objects like dishes, boxes, mirrors and vases within an interior setting at eye level like a table top.  Darkroom Gallery wants to contextually explore the Still Life; some may take a traditional approach.  Others may see Still Life/Life Still as a vehicle to explore new artistic possibilities, in form, function or to convey political or emotive meanings.  Objects caught in their natural surroundings & documented on the fly can make just as poignant an image, i.e., Life Still.  — from darkroomgallery.com

As linear foods go, I make a mean grilled eggplant lasagna.  I don’t usually fall for the layered foods like 7-layer dips and trifles, but lasagna is the exception.  Most people are replacing the meat when they use eggplant in lasagna, I’m really replacing the noodles.  While I can find wheat-less pasta of most types, lasagna noodles have eluded me.  So, eggplant makes a gorgeous replacement.  I make it in a glass plan just to get the composition perfect.  Ridiculous.  This next Call is a far better use of a line obsession.  Take a look…
