Groceries arrived at my door this week. You see, we chose to become a one-car family years ago. We live fairly remotely –2.5 miles from the closest two-lane road and nearly 10 miles to a minor four-lane highway. So, when the water pump on our car erupted in the driveway, getting groceries became a challenge for the weekend. Luckily, we have access to a grocery delivery that costs less than the taxi to and from the grocery store would cost. Some days, you just need a little help. 300 miles from home, and we each wanted a salad on the go. Google sent me in the direction of a grocery store on the next exit with a huge salad bar. I came out with a traditional pile of mixed greens, spring peas, boiled eggs, carrots & cucumbers. Hunting large caches or collection a large number of morels is a statewide obsession as well as a part-time moneymaker for many. We eat dozens & dozens of eggs each month. It would be easy to assume that when we’re out, we’d avoid them. That’s not really the case. I have them fried, over-medium, after late night outings, take them cold & hard-boiled to picnics or on early mornings. And on my recent stop at Sugar Mama’s, a little bakery/bar combo, in Knoxville, I was treated to “German Eggs”. Think of it as a fluffy egg bake or like a crustless quiche. Delicious.
