My efforts to downsize my kitchen continue. I’ve always been partial to white dishes, so color doesn’t help. I shy away from single use gadgets or trendy patterns. So, I’m left with glass containers, stainless bowls & the occasional wooden spoon. You would think that simplicity would lend a primitive look, but in fact, it makes me keenly aware of the man-made nature of each item, be it molded, cast or hand-formed. AWARD: The Artists in Residence will have an opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas which includes living and studio space for each of the three participating artist as well as a retail gallery space. The City of Navasota will provide amenities including internet, cable, electricity, retail space and live/work space free of charge to selected artists with the purpose of providing artists the opportunity to create and sell their work.

I believe in food as medicine. Like a lot of you, I have a couple of chronic health conditions that require medication, including cough-variant asthma. JUDGING: The panel of judges will review entries; approx. 35 artists will be short listed. Short listed works will be delivered to the corporate offices (Toronto), using reputable courier firms, the cost of which will be borne by the company.

AWARDS: $6,000 USD for 1st prize, $2,500 USD for 2d prize and $1,500 USD for 3rd prize. An add’l fund has been established to acquire more work from the shortlisted finalists, which will then become part of the permanent collection.

SALES: The listed value for the artworks can only be up to $1,500 USD in order to accommodate possible acquisition by Yamana Gold. Any work with a registered value higher than $1,500 USD will not be accepted. I witnessed a cheese fight this week. Okay, a cheese argument. I was having dinner in a restaurant and overheard a fairly ugly discussion about sheep’s milk vs. cow’s milk cheeses.
