TROPICAL delights

Citrus & avocados just became an option again. For years, my family has been considering locations for relocating, mostly in the eastern U.S., north of the Tennessee/Virginia line. But after our years of circling the same section of the map, an opportunity much closer to the equator has presented itself. While I should be concentrating on finding a place to live and all the details that follow, all I can think about is mangoes and avocados, and option I never imagined possible. While I get back to the garden planning, this next Call offers you a chance to get back to the garden as well. I love this venue & I’m guessing you will too…

Have I told you I was born in Florida? We lived there of and on until I was 5 years old. My most distinct food memories are from Florida. I remember accidentally dumping spaghetti on my dad’s lap because I forgot to brace the drop leaf table. I remember loving hot dogs from Dixie’s in Treasure Island and momentarily believing I was abandoned because the line had moved and I hadn’t. Spaghetti and hot dogs. The women in my family have a grudge against the snap of a fresh green vegetable. My mother has canned green beans for her sisters for the last half-dozen years. Her process for canning requires a certain amount of cooking plus heat-sealing the jars which compromises the texture.
