CALL for ENTRIES: Emerging Artists 2018

Learn more about the Emerging Artists 2018 Exhibit from SlowArt Productions and the Limner Gallery!subtle GRAIN

I have never been a big fan of rice. As a child, I only experienced rice as white, short grain & topped with copious amounts of brown gravy.  When put up against the family of starches, including potatoes and pasta, rice has always paled in comparison.  But lately, I have a newfound respect for the subtleties.  Available in a rainbow of hues, this delicate grain makes the best of additions from tomatoes & cumin to mango & orange juice.  Rice has emerged as one of my favorites.  This next Call seeks emerging artists.  Are you emerging? Show your stuff.

Check out this Call for Entries from Slow Art Productions for Emerging Artists 2018 at the Limner Gallery (Hudson, NY). $35 entry open to all media and all artists.  Take a look…

Learn more about the National International Open Call 2018 from Antenna Gallery!more ‘SHROOMS

I am eating ALL of the mushrooms.  There is this funny phenomenon where I live.  The grocer stocks lots of high-end perishables just before a holiday weekend in the hopes that tourists visiting our area will buy them at inflated prices.  However, when this doesn’t happen, they all go on clearance or closeout the next day.  The post Labor Day mushroom sale is ON.  Every imaginable shape & variety is available for the same price as a button mushroom.  I want them all.  This next Call is for the artist that wants it all in a solo show –space, time & funding.  Take a look…

Restaurant wait times make me testy, and if I’m “hangry”, you’d better hope the kitchen isn’t in the weeds.  I have a handful of standard distraction techniques, but my favorite is the restaurant with paper cover tables to draw on.  It never fails that my artistic genius strikes when the only materials on hand are roll paper & crayons.  Let’s call them oil pastels, shall we?  This next Call wants your best drawing.  Show ’em what you’ve got…

“Perhaps we never know someone until we see them
in love, despair or in danger.”
Sima Schloss

At times I feel my life is laid bare before the world.  Because I don’t have faith in the existence of privacy and an excessive desire to control my surroundings, I have beaten everyone to the punch. I have revealed almost everything to be known about me.  Those few crumbs I have kept for myself are dark corners best left unexamined by most. But if Sima Schloss, today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, is right about love, despair & danger, I have nowhere to hide.  I am oddly relieved.  What are you not trying to hide?

“I’m a huge believer that we often overlook the potential that is right in front of us. This might be because we’re trained by society to focus on what it thinks is important and separate out everything else.  We’re constantly required to go through this kind of exercise in our daily lives and become so used to it that we might be inclined to carry it over to our photography as well. A good example is the posed photograph . . . What about the moments building up to and after the shot.  Don’t these tell an interesting story as well?” –from Jeff Alu via laphotocurator.com

In the northern hemisphere nature’s color continues to fade as the world goes to sleep during our transition from autumn to winter. To prepare our minds for the absence of color and the beginning of winter solstice the world of color becomes secondary as we prepare for a blanket of white to cover the north . . . .
