CALL for ENTRIES: Into the Sea

Learn more about the Into the Sea Call for Submissions!SEAFOOD, anyone?

If you lived underwater, what would you eat?  Indulge me here.  If you were an inhabitant of Atlantis, what would be on the menu?  Are you really going to want to eat your fish, turtle & crustacean cohorts?  Can you be a vegetarian with only kelp to forage?  Mysterious, no?  This next Call wants your poetry or art interpretation of Atlantis.  If you figure out the food, let me know.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for Fairytales of Atlantis the Into the Sea poetry/art collaborative project.  This is a small startup for a book with no entry fee & a whole lot of fresh, enthusiastic energy.  I have a good feeling about this one…

*Editor’s Note:  It has been my practice to only publish opportunities with which I have some sort of experience, either personally or through a friend/peer.  But, I also like to try to vet more informal opportunities, and like the straightforward nature of the curators, but I can’t guarantee you anything.  You have to weigh this opportunity for pros/cons just like any other publication option.

Learn more about Project No 2 from Creatives in Action!HERBAL analogy

There are reasons, philosophical to medical, both against & in favor of the consumption of some things.  But more often that not, it just comes down to personal taste.  I hear people complain about the flavor of cilantro on a seemingly non-stop basis, but I can’t imagine a cilantro-less world.  Some people are never going to eat cilantro; I am not going to stop eating it.  This next Call is like cilantro, you’re going to love it or hate it, but it is still going to be your choice –no one’s forcing you.  So, take a look, or not…

Check out this Call for Entries from Creatives in Action (online/National) for Project No. 2. is now CLOSED to ENTRIES.  This is a publication opportunity for liberal protest art. This kind of opportunity will speak to some of you, and some of you will roast me endlessly out of anger. That’s fine; I get it. Only you can decide if this one is for you…

Food substitutions have become second nature to me.  I live with & cook for lots of people with food sensitivities, health concerns & philosophical/ethical food issues.  I have to be able to accommodate those folks without advance warning and without blowing my food budget.  Black beans make great gluten-free brownies; bananas work as egg replacement in many desserts & breads.  Lemon zest can be a fantastic salt alternative, & nutritional yeast is a great stand-in for Parmesan.  It isn’t about faking an ingredient; it is about creatively coming up with an alternative texture or taste.  This next Call is all about the creative.  I like this opportunity.  Is this one for you?

A grocery budget surplus comes around rarely in my house, but alas, it magically appeared this week.  I was tempted to be practical and buy a back-stock of staple items.  But at the last minute, I came across tamarind pods and decided to splurge.  I’ve always wanted to make my own tamarind paste just to know if would be better than what I could buy.  It isn’t, but I can now say I’ve done it, ha.  The next Call could put a surplus in your art budget or at least help you meet your budget.  Take a look…
