I’m afraid of eating wild mushrooms. Correction, I am afraid of improperly identifying a mushroom as edible and doing unexpected harm to my family. We all eat massive amounts of corn. Since my husband’s Celiac diagnosis, we are a gluten-free household, and it took a lot of work. But, now it is second nature and, really, no big deal. But corn? If I had to try to cut corn out of our diets, we would starve; it is in EVERYTHING. In 2012, the USDA claimed 88% of U.S. corn is GMO. I’m not okay with that, so we are planning an attempt to grow our own soon. Meanwhile, did you know that corn does excellent double duty as a trellis for growing peas? Plus, the peas supply much-need nitrogen to the soil for the corn. Don’t you just love nature? It is in the nature of this next Call to offer DOUBLE the prizes. Make us proud…

The artist’s work can be the “abstracting of representational objects” as in expressionistic, surrealistic or cubistic work. “Pure abstraction” is also accepted where there is little to no visual references of the external world.
“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes…. Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an exploration into unknown areas.” — Arshile Gorky

Home is where the kitchen is. Yes, I know–where the heart is; I simply disagree. Anyone can leave, move & travel, but we all have to eat. THEME: “The meanings associated with the word ‘home’ are as varied as dwellings themselves. For some, home is a place to put down roots, a place of safety and comfort; for others, it is simply a place to hang their hat. A home can extend beyond structural walls to include yards, streets, and the culture of a whole town. Everyone, for better or for worse, has a place they think of as home, a place where personal histories are shaped and life is lived. For ‘At Home,’ Don’t Take Pictures seeks photographs that explore the wide array of environments that people call home.” –donttakepictures.com

Have you heard about a program that is slowly spreading throughout farmers’ markets & co-ops in the U.S. called Double Bucks? It seems just about right that it would be folks dedicated to fresh food that would figure out how to get it into the hands of people who need it–affordably. Double the veggies might be the only thing better than the doubled cash prizes in this next Call. Make us proud…
