ENTRY FEE: £30.00 for 3 to 5 images (approx $38 USD)

JUROR: Kristin Hjellegjerde seeks to discover and develop new talents by creating a platform through which they can be exposed to local and international clients. Kristin Hjellegjerde acts as an art advisor for private and corporate collectors, as well as working closely with developers and architects. Established in 2012, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery quickly gained recognition in the contemporary art world for showing a roster of innovative, international artists, both emerging and established, with strong theoretical and aesthetic bases.

AWARDS: Artists selected by the guest curator will receive a 1-page or 2-page spread including a brief bio, website, and 2-3 images in print and digital formats. All published artists will receive a digital copy of the magazine and will be promoted on our website/social media.

DISTRIBUTION: ArtMaze Magazine is an independent international publication which will be distributed both nationally and internationally in stores and via the online store. ArtMaze Mag will be available in New York (McNally Jackson Books), London (White Cube Gallery and Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery) and throughout the UK in select stores such as Magalleria (Bath), Magazine Brighton (UK) and others. The Thanksgiving sea of brown food has passed. Luckily, my family forgoes the turkey, dressing, gravy & rolls thereby missing out on a good portion of the brownness of it all. I crave color even in my food. A star of this year’s menu was the beet & clementine salad. Beets are plentiful year around due to how well they do in cold storage. JURORS: Marissa Csanyi holds a BS in Interior Architecture from UNC at Greensboro. She moved from NC to Vancouver, BC to work at the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, a non-profit that supports the conservation of historic buildings in Vancouver. While there she helped to develop a certificate program to teach homeowners how to care for their historic homes. Marissa currently lives in Portland, OR. She spends her free time in the wilderness of the Pacific NW with her dog, Frances.

Helen Jones graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in Photography. Post college she returned to her hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont where she assisted with Through the Music, an eclectic gallery, featuring emerging artists. She also co-taught at In-Sight Photography Project, a non-profit providing photo classes to youth regardless of ability to pay. Helen now lives in Portland, OR. Her work can be seen in the recent PIP publication, “Good Days Gone Cold Days”.

AWARD: Inclusion in a printed zine of very small editions.

She is identified as both an art director and visual artist, having maintained a strong presence in both fields, commercially and with her own fine art.

I will eat almost anything once, we’ve established this already. But, as a kid, I would not get past the lemon-furniture-polish impression I had of lemongrass and ginger. DEADLINE: May 1, 2016

NOTIFICATION: June 1, 2016

ENTRY FEE: €20 (approx. $23 USD) for 5-10 works

AWARDS: The Moth Art Prize consists of a month-long retreat at a newly renovated barn in a beautiful lakeland setting in rural Ireland, along with a travel stipend of €1,000 (approx $1144 USD). The barn, which features a studio and living area downstairs and open-plan accommodation upstairs, is situated along a quiet country lane, surrounded by lakes. The nearest village of Milltown, which has a shop and a pub, is a few kilometers away. A bicycle will be provided, and the publishers of The Moth will be on hand to take you to the nearest town for provisions.

The winner chooses what month of the year they would like to spend at the barn. There is room enough in the barn to accommodate a partner and up to three children, if you should wish to travel en famille. There is no onus on the artist to produce a body of work while staying at the barn. We want it to be a place to rejuvenate and be inspired.

I like to think I eat fairly clean. But by coincidence, I ran out of all of my standard sauces at one time which necessitated my seeing them ALL in my shopping cart at once. Who new? What happens when food imitates visual art? At Art Basel Hong Kong in 2015, that question was answered by 10 stellar chefs. The image to the left is L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon combination of French sea bass, seasonal black truffle, celery mousse line & Malabar pepper sauce to recreate Zao Wou-ki’s dark abstract work. This dish, and at least 9 others in this vein, were available at restaurants in the Hong Kong area back in March. I can’t know how tasty it was, but, my oh my, how beautiful. Fresh sea bass, rainbow beets & marinated mozzarella pearls. The marinade was herbed with basil from my window sill. The tartar sauce was accented by chow chow canned by my mother with cucumbers & cabbage grown this year. The only things not fresh were the olive oil, Himalayan salt & Moroccan red pepper. Is it Spring? Unfortunately not. just the day after a trip to the farmers market. In my dream world, I would live within walking distance of a fresh market so that every meal could be this wonderful.
