I talk to myself in the grocery store –okay everywhere. But, it is worst in the grocery store. In the produce section last week, I was standing in front of a mountain of shiny red apples when I muttered, “I don’t get it.” As you know, I advertise my disinterest in the grainy texture & overly sweet flavor of many red varieties of apples on a regular basis. I tend to prefer them green & tart; sue me. My grocer had approx. 2 dozen green apples & 20 dozen red varieties for sale, hence the “I don’t get it.” But this time, a woman in my age range was standing next to me while I muttered. She turned, looked me in the eye & said, “If you don’t like apples, you’re not American.” Really? Is my nationality now determined by my fruit choices?
