My ice cream maker is still getting a workout even though the weather is getting cooler.  My newest favorite is naked coconut ice cream, and honestly, you don’t need an ice cream maker.  As I continue to downsize my kitchen, I am trying to convince my self to let go of the ice cream maker.  If I can find more recipes like this one, I’m sold.  This recipe in N.A.K.E.D. Did you know orchids are edible?  Many of you have probably seen the sugared variety high atop a wedding cake or as a garnish, but they’re great in salads too.  The flavor is a bit like cucumber with the texture of a buttery lettuce and a touch of the bitter bite of endive.  Don’t eat orchids given to you as gifts.  If they weren’t grown by you, please be sure you only eat certified organic orchids.  The use of pesticides is prevalent in commercially farmed ornamental plants; so, be careful.  This next Call can center on orchids.  It is all up to you…

BREAD

My family enjoys participating in cultural celebrations from around the world.  None of us grew up with any sort of specific cultural traditions aside from spaghetti night or BBQ on Father’s Day.  So each year we adopt Chinese New Year, Oktoberfest & even the Day of the Dead as our very own.  Chinese New Year gives us an extra 6 weeks or so to make plans for the upcoming year (Yes, we really are late to everything –even making resolutions, ha).  Dia de Los Muertos offers us a time to tell stories about those we’ve lost.  I’ve lost a lot of people lately, and it is a great comfort to take time to celebrate them.  This next Call is interested in that same celebration.  Take a look…

MUNCHIES

I kicked cable TV to the curb.  Because we travel for work, no one really watches specific shows very often.  So, we have a Hulu account & Chromecast PLUS there’s a Redbox® just down the mountain.  The result?  Now we watch more movies and consume more popcorn.  Isn’t that the law?  A movie must be accompanied by popcorn, right?  This next Call could be an excellent way to put my new movie-watching obsession to good use.  Take a look…

EGGPLANT

My kiddo just turned 16.  For his birthday, he didn’t ask for pizza or burgers; he wanted Indian food.  So proud.  Since his palate took a huge left turn a couple of years ago, eating out with him has been a voyage of firsts.  The first taste of Baingan ka Bharta (a spicy mash of eggplant & tomatoes) & Goat Korma were adorable.  And hopeful.  Finally I can rest knowing that I might have put another foodie out into the world that is willing to eat adventurously.  This next Call could be a first opportunity for you at the first show for this gallery.  Investigate…

ICE

Can someone bring me a mango ice shave?  I have been desperately trying not to whine about the heat, but you could stave off my whining with a shave ice.  Really.  Don’t bring me a snow cone; it isn’t the same thing.  It is about the location of the syrup.  In a shave ice/ice shave, the shaving creates a snow-like texture that absorbs the syrup.  In a snow cone, the ice is crushed causing all the syrup to settle to the bottom. Don’t try a shave ice unless you are prepared to never eat a snow cone again. Really.  You can’t keep your hot weather, but don’t keep your hot pics.  This next Call is a great distraction.  No shipping required…

BEANS

I don’t drink coffee.  For all of my open-palate talk, there are things I am simply not interested in consuming.  Coffee is one of those things.  For many of you, this is heresy, sacrilege, blasphemy.  I suspect it would be like my reaction to people that don’t like chocolate–incomprehensible. But, I break my own rules.  When I go to the “home” of something, I feel obligated to partake.  Don’t you have to drink coffee in Washington?  Maybe I could just visit Java Jive and listen to a few tunes in the giant coffee pot instead.  Or consume a little art just a couple of hours down the interstate.  I’m game. How about you?

I have a tattoo.  It is apple-shaped.  I know–food, again.  It was really meant to be about food, technically.  I went to New York City, aka the Big Apple, for my graduate school interview, and decided to get a little, nickel-sized apple tattoo to remind me of my trip to the Big Apple.  Yes, I was sober.  Turns out that I’m a bleeder, so it is my only tattoo.  But, I really love them.  This next Call wants your take on tattoos.  Take a look…

CORNY

Popping corn is an art.  We consume bowls and bowls and bowls of popcorn at my house every night–organic, non-GMO cooked on the stove the same way it was done when I was little.  As a matter of fact, I believe my craving for popcorn is actually triggered by sunset.  I adore it toped by finely grated Parmesan & a sprinkle of chile powder.  My husband craves it with huge doses of freshly ground black pepper.  My son prefers it with just a sprinkle of sea salt.   That’s our nighttime popcorn trifecta.  This next Call is open to whole different kind of nighttime imagery.  Take a look…
