CALL for ENTRIES: 2016 Nat’l Juried

http://knoxalliance.com/juried.htmlMUSTARD
fiends

Every last member of my family is a mustard fiend.  There are rarely ever appearances of plain yellow mustard in my house.  Dijon is the mustard of choice for the majority of the family.  And while I have a soft spot for homemade, hot Chinese mustard, I rarely indulge (too lazy to make it).  Brown mustard gets an occasional at bat around here on a whim, but Dijon is our comfort zone, our fall back, our home base if you will.  This next gallery is a little like home base for me.  Please don’t miss this opportunity…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Arts & Culture Alliance for the Nat’l Juried Exhibition of 2016. This is a great arts organization. I have shown work here.  I have juried a show here.  I teach here.  I would love to see your contribution at this opening. Take a look…

SQUASH

While most of the world is obsessed with pumpkin-flavor, not actual pumpkin, I am reveling in the other winter squashes — butternut, acorn & patty pan.  My farmers market sells these squash, in season, for $1 each.  Split & roast one of each squash, scoop out the insides and puree through the food processor, add a little salt, pepper, garlic and a touch of curry or a few red pepper flakes, and the resulting squash soup is divine.  It looks like baby food, but the flavor is unbelievable.  I makes lunch for all three of us for at least two or three days.  Squash, just squash.  It’s a solo act, just like this next Call.  Take a look…

My chicken stock has been a little off lately.  I make chicken stock at least once a week, and I thought I was doing everything the same, but all the dishes I make with stock of been a little off as well.  The chicken soup & casseroles & pasta dishes were all missing something.  Peppercorns.  I ran out of peppercorns and used fresh ground pepper in their place.  It amazes me that such a small thing can make such a big difference.  This next show wants your small things to make a big difference in their next exhibit.  Take a look…

TARRAGON

My talent lies with liquids.  That is, my cooking skills are at their best with sauces, soups, stews & the occasional bisque.  There are many Seinfeld-esque Soup Nazi comments in my house regularly, but I am so excited that winter is here.  There is something about the delicate balance of flavors & how they change in a liquid that create the perfect puzzle for me  to solve. Let the season of potato soup, bolognese & Sauce Béarnaise.  This next Call wants to know where your talents lie.  The deadline is just around the corner…

The Gift
You Never
Wanted

We are often given gifts that are unsightly, unseemly, or straight out of a nightmare. Often these “gifts” stay with us, sometimes for the better. The gifts we never wanted take many forms, both physically and emotionally. In the end we have to ask—are gifts given for the sender or the receiver?

For the exhibition The Gift You Never Wanted, Non-Fiction Gallery seeks works of art that explore the idea of the gift as a burden or a blessing.

CALL for ENTRIES: Oddity

Learn more about the Oddity Exhibit from Darkroom Gallery!SUGAR bear

Food oddities abound –from century eggs to snake wine. But I find the biggest food oddity is the waste of food in massive, organized food fights.  How do you use tons of food to make a mess when it could be feeding someone?  I don’t understand.  I suppose that some make an argument that food art is also a waste; however, I think the difference in scale might be the defining factor.  I have to admit to loving Kevin Champeny‘s gummy bear chandeliers.  This next Call is looking for oddities, but they don’t have to be food related.  Take a look…

I’ve been studying bubbles.  It makes washing dishes feel interminable.  I’ve been working on an illustration in which bubble are key.  Now that I better understand the transparency, I’ve finally opted to study the play of light on the curve of a multitude of objects.  For days my kitchen window has been lined with apples, small mixing bowls, ice cream scoops and spoons.  This next Call is the perfect place to show off your obsession with the curve.  Take a look…

Curvilinear

“Planar lines that wind, wend and soar through a image’s field of focus.  Curving components within a photograph give the image depth, allowing the viewer’s eye to move through the frame almost effortlessly.  It is almost as if the photographer takes the viewer by the hand, draws them into the frame, and points the way. The viewer’s eyes are compelled to follow the line of the curvature.  Darkroom Gallery is calling for images that possess this curvy compositional trait.” –darkroomgallery.com

I haven’t been to Rhode Island in years. The Ocean State is famous for a lot of foods like the delight that is the delicate version of calamari.
