Citrus & avocados just became an option again.  For years, my family has been considering locations for relocating, mostly in the eastern U.S., north of the Tennessee/Virginia line.  But after our years of circling the same section of the map, an opportunity much closer to the equator has presented itself.  While I should be concentrating on finding a place to live and all the details that follow, all I can think about is mangoes and avocados, and option I never imagined possible.  While I get back to the garden planning, this next Call offers you a chance to get back to the garden as well.  I love this venue & I’m guessing you will too…

It has been a revolutionary sort of weekend.  I am struggling to figure out what to make of the adults in this world.  While I am trying not to give up on people who should KNOW better, my heart finds relief in the children that DO better.  Today’s AAAD Artist of the Day, Richard Brocken, offers a view, often of children, that is reverent and ethereal, sometimes funny or mischievous.  Entirely humane.

Winter is the season of indulgent foods.  Comfort foods have changed for me over the years, but they still tend to be slow-cooked, hearty fare. Her recent work was published in New American Paintings, edition 118.  Rice is currently an Asst. Professor of Art at Longwood University in Farmville.

I lamented to a friend about my having to buy frozen dinners to supplement my child’s homemade options due to scheduling conflicts, and that session of whining spun off into a whole other discussion about why we quit calling them “TV dinners”.  My friend optimistically believes it is because people, generally speaking eat in front of the TV less often.  However, I suspect it is because we eat FROZEN meals far more commonly than just in front of the TV.  I am grateful there are some better options out there. My efforts to downsize my kitchen continue.  I’ve always been partial to white dishes, so color doesn’t help.  I shy away from single use gadgets or trendy patterns.  So, I’m left with glass containers, stainless bowls & the occasional wooden spoon. I believe in food as medicine.  Like a lot of you, I have a couple of chronic health conditions that require medication, including cough-variant asthma. I have chosen to take the least amount of medication possible to suppress side effects –specifically to my voice.  Green tea with honey, cayenne & turmeric is loaded with anti-inflammatories that really help prepare my voice for the level of use I have to sustain.  The positive?
