The girls-eat-salad debate continues. Stock photography makes it appear that women can barely nibble a leaf without laughing. Men in movie bars disparage women who eat salads for their sexier steak-eating counterparts. Body-shamers think women should only eat salad while movie intellectuals think kale salad is for silly hipsters. I am uncertain how gender really applies to food. I only know that after a weeks on the road, there is little better than hand-torn greens and back yard veggies from the farmers’ market topped with a homemade dress. My husband agrees. JUROR: Andrew Overtoom is an award-winning filmmaker & photographer living in L.A. He publishes THE UNDEAD NEG, is launching a quarterly photography journal & owns the 1650 Gallery.
AWARDS: Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS! group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles. Best In Show, 2nd & 3rd Place will be awarded & posted after the opening. Awarded photos will be featured on the show page & Best In Show winners will have a small portfolio featured in the 1650 Spotlight gallery.
SALES: Selected artists may choose to offer their work for sale. The gallery retains 50% commission. The 1650 Gallery offers free matting and framing for accepted photographs that fit their pre-cut mat sizes for the duration of the exhibition. Photo sizes are 8″ x 10″, 11″ x 14″ 16″ x 20″, or 20″ x 24″.
