My family enjoys participating in cultural celebrations from around the world. None of us grew up with any sort of specific cultural traditions aside from spaghetti night or BBQ on Father’s Day. So each year we adopt Chinese New Year, Oktoberfest & even the Day of the Dead as our very own. Chinese New Year gives us an extra 6 weeks or so to make plans for the upcoming year (Yes, we really are late to everything –even making resolutions, ha). Dia de Los Muertos offers us a time to tell stories about those we’ve lost. I’ve lost a lot of people lately, and it is a great comfort to take time to celebrate them. Day of the Dead
“Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. It is an ancient & enduring ritual when the living commune with the dead.” –laslagunagallery.com
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists
MEDIA: All media considered: photography to fiber, mixed media, all paintings & drawings including, oil, acrylic, ink, graphite, pastels, etc. (no jewelry, video, or sculpture)
THEME: Las Laugna Gallery is looking for works inspired by the Day of the Dead.
DEADLINE: September 6, 2015
NOTIFICATION: September 10, 2015
ENTRY FEE: $25 for 1, $5 ea. add’l up to 15
