Many of my cooking utensils and vessels are handmade. This is all thanks to my living in Gatlinburg–the largest group of independent craft artisans in North America. It is a privilege to be able to use hand carved spoons and beautifully thrown bowls in the preparation of my family’s meals. These treasures are beautiful & special, and I am so grateful to have them. This next Call is being juried by the director of one of the country’s foremost schools for craft education, Penland. JUROR: Jean W. McLaughlin has been director of the Penland School of Crafts since 1998. McLaughlin went to Penland after serving 16 years at the NC Arts Council as Director of Visual Arts. As an ardent and eloquent advocate for artists and the creative process, McLaughlin has been a speaker, panelist & writer on the work of individual artists and the importance of alternative educational resources like Penland.
AWARDS: Best in Show $1000, 2nd Place $500, 3rd Place $250 & Honorable Mentions $50
