STUFF!

I eat more cake than I’d like to admit.  In my household, it is most often in the form of cupcakes.  It is not because I prefer the taste or portion control of cupcakes.  But I find that cupcakes are easier to freeze and store.  Did you know that freezing cake (or cupcakes) before they have completely cooled traps some of the moisture in the cake?  It also makes them easier to cut or decorate.  This next Call will test the depth of your taste for the sweet stuff.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Shoe Factory Art Co-op (Rochester, NY) for Let them Eat Cake at Starry Nites Café.  Don’t discount the sales and exposure available is a retail gallery setting! Take a chance…

I used to live 12″ from a firehouse in Downtown Charleston.  The kitchen shared a wall with the firehouse.  If there was an alarm while I was cooking dinner, I had to hang on to the pots on the stove and the glasses on the counter to prevent crashes.  The gallery sponsoring this next Call has had a much better experience with firehouses.  Take a look…

I had salmon “en papillote” tonight.  Fear not, it just means “in parchment”.  Contrary to what you might think, it is not the French-cool-factor that leads me down the path of parchment cooking. (Okay, maybe a little.) The real reason is because it is healthy since it requires so little fat.  Okay, that’s a lie too.  The truth?  There is virtually no cleanup.  No dirty saute pans.  Yep, laziness has lead to French cooking.  Go figure.  This next Call is all about the paper too.  Take a look…

In Transit

Whether by road, sea, rail, air, or other means, vehicles are both essential and ubiquitous in our daily lives. Photographers have documented transportation history, as NASA launched rockets, Ford assembled cars, and the Wright brothers took flight. As modes of transportation, photographers observe the intersections of cultures on public transit and the isolation of solitary commuters on the highway. Modes of transit spawn communities, and photographers have documented biker gangs and houseboats.

Journeys are photographed out of windows of speeding vehicles; blurred, voyeuristic, and fleeting. The vehicles themselves are cultural icons and status symbols: sailboats, muscle cars, Harley-Davidsons, and fixed gear bicycles. For In Transit, The Kiernan Gallery seeks images from and of the vehicles that move us.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists

MEDIA:  All photographic media are encouraged.

“What I dream of is an art of balance” – Henri Matisse

Balance in art is the arrangement of elements so no one part overpowers the other, or seems heavier than the other.

There are three different perspectives on balance: symmetrical balance – stable and formal.  Asymmetrical balance – non-stable and dramatic. Radial balance – alludes to movement. How do you utilize balance in your art?  If selected you will be a part of an exciting group exhibit in New York City.
