A-SPARE-ME-AGUS

There was a time when I was scared of asparagus.  No, really.  My only childhood exposure to asparagus was with the canned variety–grayish green, slimy, salty, icky.  I managed to go a span of TWO DECADES without eating it again.  I had developed such a taste aversion that irrationally, somewhere in the back of my brain, I thought consuming it would have dire consequences.  Luckily, someone served me cream of asparagus soup under the guise of cream of broccoli soup, and now I am addicted.  Blanched and marinated in balsamic vinigrette then served cold…I could eat it every day.  This next call seeks to explore YOUR fears.  Anybody want to talk about bloody beets?

Fears & Phobias is a timely exhibition that explores the theme of fears and phobias. This work can be very introspective and personal, or express these issues in a larger social context.

What are YOU afraid of?

 

What does it bring to mind for artists? That is the question and the challenge that they are asking artists to figure out.

ELIGIBILITY:
Open to all artists.

MEDIA: This show is open to all media.

DEADLINE: November 14, 2011

NOTIFICATION: November 30, 2011

ENTRY FEE: A non-refundable $35 for 3 pieces of artwork – each work may include only one add’l detail image per work.

JUROR:  Lia Newman, Director of Programs and Exhibitions at Artspace, Raleigh, NC, received degrees from Winthrop University in Art History and Studio and a MA in Liberal Studies from Duke. S he has extensive experience throughout the southeast as a curator, juror, and panelist.  Her expertise spans all media with a special interest in art that addresses social and political issues.

SALES: A commission of 40% will be taken on all works sold as a result of this exhibition. Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing.
