CALL for ENTRIES: Altered States
The Pocono Arts Council announces a call to photographers for a national juried photography exhibition, January 14 – February 27, 2012 at ARTSPACE Gallery in Stroudsburg, PA.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists. *Editor’s Note: The Prospectus calls this exhibit a “national” show indicating that artists must reside in the US; however, it doesn’t actually address eligibility. If in doubt, email them.
MEDIA: Open to all photo-based works which have been altered at any point during the photographic process. All content and photographic media are acceptable-alternative processes, traditional black and white, and/or digital methods. Add’l artistic mediums, such as paint or found objects, are encouraged as long as the piece is photographic based.
NOTIFICATION: Entrants will be notified via email on or around December 9, 2011 only if he/she is accepted. A list of accepted artists will also be posted on their website.
ENTRY FEE: Adults pay $20 for the first 2 entries and $15 each add’l. Students pay $15 for the first 2 entries and $10 each add’l.
JUROR: Harris Fogel is an Associate Professor of Photography, and Director and Curator of the Sol Mednick Gallery and Gallery 1401 in the Media Arts Dept. at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Fogel’s photographic work is in major museum collections, and he has a long exhibition record. He has written for art and photo-related publications and projects, and has taught photo history for more than 20 years. One of his longstanding interests is placing contemporary work within a contextual framework.
AWARDS: Juror’s Choice Award: $500 cash, a feature on the PoconoArts website, and an article in its monthly newsletter following the exhibition. Curator Award: $200 cash. ARTSPACE Student Award: $100 cash.
SALES: All work must be available for sale. The ARTSPACE Gallery receives a commission of 20% of sale before taxes. All payments to artists will be in the form of a check and mailed 30 days after the close of the show.
