CHEW and CHOW
I grew up with a jar of chow-chow frequently on the table as THE condiment of choice. For those of you not familiar with this pickled treat, Chow-chow is a pickled relish made from a combination of vegetables. Mainly green tomato, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, carrots and peas are used. These are pickled in a jar & served cold. I’ve always thought this gem had Southern roots, but I’ve recently learned that a sweeter version has it’s roots in Pennsylvania. Lore Degenstein Gallery in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania announces a call to artists for a juried visual art competition and exhibition, October 29 – December 9, 2011. $4000 in awards.
Susquehanna University’s Lore Degenstein Gallery presents work by both professional and student artists in five exhibitions a year. The gallery is located in the Degenstein Campus Center. All Lore Degenstein Gallery events are free and open to the public.
ELIGIBILITY: This competition & exhibit is open to artists over the age of 18.
MEDIA: Two-dimensional painting, drawing or printmaking.
NOTIFICATION: September 17, 2011
ENTRY FEE: Artists may submit up to three (3) works for the non-refundable fee of $25.
JUROR: Cindy Stockton Moore, a Philadelphia-based painter and writer.
AWARDS: Best of Show – $1500, Second Prize – $1000, Third Prize – $700, Fourth Prize – $500 and Fifth Prize – $300
SALES: The Gallery will take no commission upon sale of work. All sales inquiries will be referred to the artists.
