I love figurative work. My own work is almost exclusively figurative. Most of my favorite artists are figurative.
Here’s a great figurative show: Strange Figurations at the Limner Gallery in Hudson, NY brought to you by SlowArt Productions.
SlowArt Productions presents the group thematic exhibition, Strange Figurations. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from September 1 – 25, 2010. This exhibition is open to all interpretations of the concept, Strange Figurations. Included are all forms of unique and unusual figurative art from the realist to the surreal and visionary. All artist interpretations of the theme “Strange Figurations” will be reviewed and considered.
IMAGE PRESENTATION: Artwork submitted may be represented by prints up to 8.5″ x 11″, by digital images on CD, by 35mm slides, or by email entry.
* Prints: Prints of work may be up to 8.5″ x 11″ and may be digital (ink jet, laser etc.) or photographic prints. Artist name, title, size, media and price should be on the front or back of the print. If you want your prints returned, be sure to follow the return of materials guidelines below.
* Digital files: Digital image files may be submitted on CD, DVD or Zip discs. Images should be readable on PC platform and should be in TIF or JPG format. No files larger than 15MB please. Reference prints must be included. Reference prints may be any size individual prints up to 8.5″ x 11″ (label as for prints above) or may be a single sheet with multiple prints representing the images on the disc. If submitting a single sheet , next to each image write the artist, title, media and dimensions. If you submit digital files without reference prints, your disc may not be properly viewed.
* Online email entry: To enter via email: 1 )Type your contact and image list information requested on the entry form into your email message. 2)Attach your images to the email. 3) Email to LimnerEntry@aol.com. 4)Pay the entry fee using their Pay Pal payment page. [Digital files emailed should be in JPG format, 72dpi and no larger than 12″ in any dimension.]
* Slides: Slides should be 35mm. On each slide write the image list number and artists name, title of work, media and dimensions. Indicate top of work. Do not send glass slides, glass slides are almost always crushed in the mail.
RETURN OF MATERIALS: A self-addressed-stamped-envelope (SASE) must be included with sufficient postage for the return of submission materials. Artists outside the US who cannot obtain US stamps may add return postage cost to the entry fee at a rate of $1.00US per ounce of mail. NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than July 31, 2010. Results will be posted on or before this date at: http://www.slowart.com/results. Notification will be made via email and/or by mail with the return of materials in the SASE provided by the artist. Artists who do not include the SASE because they do not want their slide or print materials returned must provide a self addressed stamped #10 (letter size) envelope if they wish to be notified by mail. All artists who provide a working email address will be notified via email, if no email or return envelope is provided, artists will only be notified if accepted to exhibit. Type or print your email address clearly, if a mistake is made reading it you will not be notified. Read the notification page for details of the notification policy.
FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for 1-4 images. If you wish to include more than 4, please include $5.00 for each additional. Details of artwork count as an additional image. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Please make check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions. Artists who wish to pay by credit card may do so via PayPal, [use this link to make Pay Pal payments] If using PayPal and entering by mail, print the PayPal transaction page and include it with your entry.
AWARDS: One artist from Strange Figurations will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #18, Fall 2011 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. TERMS: All works in the show must be for sale. The gallery will take a 30 percent commission on all sales. Sale price is determined by artist.
ELIGIBILITY: STRANGE FIGURATIONS is open to all artists, national and international, working in any media. All forms of art are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. 96″ maximum for wall hung work, 72″ for free standing sculpture.
DEADLINE: The Final postmarked deadline is June 30, 2010. Entries must be postmarked by this date.
